Our beautiful missions in Mexico are closed temporarily due to the extreme violence that has now come to us. Earlier this year we had wonderful visitors, both adults and youth who served the people in five different villages. In all we had a Medical Mission headed by our brave Neva Schmeltzer, R.N. and her husband Tony who is Operations Coordinator. We had other professional medical staff and youth who took part in teaching hygiene in fun ways. In each village there were Bible based arts, crafts and storytelling. Kids to Kids helping them discover the loving Father we share and His Son, Jesus. Another part of this group were the workers who together with villagers put down a cement floor in the little church on the water, Maria Estrella del Mar. (Mary Star of the Sea) They also lifted and mounted a huge cement cross on top of Cristo Rey in the village of LaChona. We had a beautiful week of prayer services, masses, reflections and recreation. All in all it was a very remarkable and spiritual mission. But now the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in El Barratal where our loved priest, Fr. Nacho serves is bullet ridden with the office shot up and where 12 people died. What a waste. What is God thinking about us all?
Spring break of 2011 will be in Guatemala working to help the Casa del Pescador kids. I know it will be a special mission that will change peoples lives for the better and I am looking forward to it. But - let us all continue to pray for Mexico and our sisters and brothers who are living in fear there right now. Their lives are more difficult than before due to the violence and some kids are not even able to go to school. Please join us and pray for peace.
Bless you one and all in His Name, Amen
maria
